Preface for the exhibition "Fragments of the forgotten images" in PU Gallery, Redtory, Guangzhou  26.03-22.05-2016

The 23 works of this exhibition represent pictures which was created by the artist years ago, back in the eighties and recent works. It raise some thinking about a series of duality proposition, such as past-present, memorizing-forgetting, whole-broken, etc. He is asking himself what happened in his life which caused the difference in form and content, between then and now.

As mentioned above ,this exhibition has included some works created by artists in the '80s, so this is a kind of retrospective exhibition. At that stage, his works mainly is crayon pastel paintings and acrylics paintings.  Compared with oil paintings, crayon paste paintings and acrylics paintings was more opening and applicable to the real-time creation style. It is a kind of art seeking relationships, experiences and games. This point was obtained a clear performance by the art work’s development of materials, techniques and forms.

The title for the exhibition: “Fragments of the forgotten images” tells something about the iconography in his latest works; elements from earlier works combined with elements and technique from today.. The picture represented on the poster is an example on this.

In his last exhibition in 798 ArtZone in Beijing in the well recognized gallery See+ “Phoenix” the underlying theme was transition, the evergoing transition in a humans life. This exhibition represent a continuence of this theme, but with a much more personal approach.

We can feel all the conflict, confrontation, dreams, humor and irony that in the pictures, then establishing an atmosphere and a variety of situations.

Erik Steffen Alvaer has life experience of China and Norway, the cultural differences between the East and the West make his works more diversified. It is not only the source of his artistic inspiration but also the wisdom obtained from the culture shock. He successfully held his exhibitions in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and many other cities.
